New Stockist!

We have a new stockist here at Wee Small Hours Quilts. It is a cute little shop that was recently voted Most Popular Retailer in the Moreland area. When I spoke to the lovely Annemarie she had just done a photo shoot with the Moreland Leader showcasing the shop so if you are from that area you may have seen it.

It is called The Very Curious Kitten and is at 138 Lygon Street, Brunswick East. It is a shop full of vintage loveliness, clothes, baby things, and assorted bits and bobs.

This is the front window displaying a gorgeous tweedy suitcase, some retro clothes including a little girl's dress, crates, bottles and cushions and very sweet lacy bunting just to top it all off. Apparently there is a new sign going in as well.

Springvale Road

Well, it was a beautiful crisp sunny morning and I was cruising down Springvale Road admiring the cheerful pink blossom heralding spring

and the sweet white daisies planted in the medium strip bopping on the breeze

when a stunning mint green 1950's volvo sedan, polished to perfection and gleaming in the sun, drew up alongside.

As I glanced across and saw the most stately white-haired elderly gentleman, beautifully coutured and complete with walrus moustache, driving with great concentration, I thought this, here, now, on Springvale Road, is truly the coolest place to be!

A Parade of Bellies and Babies

Thank you to all who popped down to Mathilda's Market on Sunday. It was truly the place to see the beautiful, round bellies of young mums to be and loads of gorgeous babies oblivious to the general pram mayhem around them. I oohed and aahed all day!

The Market was busy with people sampling the wares as well as face-painting for the kids. Thank-you for posing to these two little cuties.

I was near the lovely Kylie from Tiges and Weince;

and the very talented Nicholas and Mara of Printspace;

This is Nicholas and I must send a hi and a big thankyou to Nicholas for opening my very tight fitting thermos lid! A girl goes prepared and is nearly thwarted by a thermos!

And of course I couldn't leave without a purchase. I got chatting with the delightful Amy from Happy as Larry Designs who came all the way from Adelaide

and I couldn't resist buying these felt balls.

I have a cunning plan for them but will post about it when it comes to fruition!

Wee Small Hours will certainly be at the next Mathilda's Market in November. It is a Christmas Market at the Caulfield Racecourse and should be big! Next time I am determined not to miss out on the scrumptious cupcakes! (left my run too late!) See you there.

To Market To Market

Wee Small Hours is off to Mathilda's Market tomorrow. I'd love to see you at the Hawthorn Town Hall between 9am and 1pm.

I am adding some things for older kids. Among them I have been sewing up some new mini hanging toys for cupboard doors or prams or for older kids' school bags (perhaps decorated with a badge or there is space for a name).

This picture shows a box of minis popping their heads over the top of the box. They are in fact in boy and girl shapes with little hanging toggles on their heads.

I've also done some tote bags which I am very happy with. They are in lively floral patterns and are not too big so will be fine for littlies or bigger people. Sorry no photo as yet. I am still making them.

And of course I've done some hair pins and elastics with cute fabrics;

I'm also taking the usual: quilts of course;

And blankets;

And bibs;

And booties;

And other things.

My beautiful daughter will accompany me so there will be ipod listening but perhaps she is just keeping an eye on her doll's house which I have snaffled for my stall display along with my cousin' doll's wardrobe.

A Quick Trip to the Library

Don't you love the Library? All those marvellous books, absolutely free, anything you've ever been even vaguely interested in!

Managed to squeeze in a little trip to the Kew Library yesterday and went a bit mad. I couldn't decide so I got a bunch of housy books,

a bunch of magazines,

some craft books,

some books for my girl and a few for my boy,

and a Ben Elton novel - not sure why but it had a bright blue cover and like a bowerbird I had popped it in my bag without another thought!

While I was there I heard a gentle rumbling sound from behind the stacks. I went to investigate and send a big hello to the guy stretched out in a comfy chair in the sun, head rolled back, fast asleep and snoring lusciously. It looked very pleasant indeed!

So for browsing or reading or sleeping I recommend your local library. And here is mine.

Here is a picture of one of my quilts made with a reproduction playground themed retro fabric. You may have seen this in Real Living magazine in the Mathilda's Market ad. I love this one and it is very popular. There has, however, been much discussion as to whether it would be suitable for both boys and girls (with a more gender neutral gingham backing). Is the print too girly? What do you think?
